How to Punk Your Kids With Your 80’s Upbringing!

the 80's

10 WAYS

It’s almost that great time of the year when people like to play a little joke on the ones they love… or maybe even better the one’s they don’t love! What better way to spice up the day with a little blast from the past. Here’s a few ways to punk your kids with your 80’s childhood!

1.Replace their Ipod with a Walkman and Cassette Tapes:

And even those crappy ear phones with the foam covers. Awesome torture! Not only that, but you might get a little listen of your favorite childhood album. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out how to make the cassette tape work and what to do with non-digital buttons. There’s no touch screen here people.

2. PEG ALL Their Jeans!

Sneak into their room at night and do the fold over roll up fashion awesomness of the 80’s! When they get up and they can’t figure out why their foot won’t fit through the bottom of their jeans just tell them you wanted them to look “Fresh, Man!”

3. Go Madonna!

Show up to breakfast in your stonewash jeans and front knotted shirt. Tease your hair and spray it with 90 tons of aerosol hairspray so your bangs stick all the way up to the ceiling. Can you imagine the look on their face! Oh and don’t forget the scrunchy!

4. Tune In:

To the 80’s that is. Breakfast is over and it’s cartoon time. Turn on Rainbow Bright or the Popples and pretend like it’s the coolest show ever! Don’t forget to watch the Muppet Babies next or School House Rock for something a little more educational. Then later that night announce it’s TGIF! Full House, Family Matters, and Step by Step here we come.

5. Offer to Do Your Daughters Make Up:

Get out your best bright blue eye shadow and the pinkest blush you can find! Slather it on like all the way up to the eyebrows! Don’t let her look into the mirror though until you’re all done! When she complains just say “What? That was all the rage when I was in school! You look totally radical!”

6. Make a Swap:

While they’re away at school trade all of their pokemon card for Garbage Pail Kids cards and see what happens when they get home! Eww.. Mom!!! What are these!

7. Homework 80’s Style:

Look we suffered through years of Encyclopedia Britannica. Siri didn’t answer any questions for me and Google was a weird word we heard in Math class. Better yet, take them to the library and make them use the card catalog to find the research book they need. That oughta be a blast!

8. Glowing Screens:

Look the closest thing we had to text messaging was the Speak and Spell. Take away their cell phones and set out the Lite Brite! That should be fun to watch!

9. Send Them Outside:

But instead of riding their Hoverboard, set out a brand new Pogo Ball! That should be fun for a few skull fractures!

10. Instagram:

Social Media in the 80’s was more like getting a new installment of Teen Bop magazine or picking up your rotary phone to call your friends mom to find out where they are. Instagram of the 80’s…. nah we had the View Master!
